XYQ/TJQ 4TW

If there are any of you out there who are still reading this blog from its days as a martial arts rumination, I’m pleased to announce that I have resumed training. I’ve taken up He Bei style Xingyiquan and have converted from the Yang Taijiquan put forth by Yang Jwing Ming in favor of the form developed by Yang Cheng Fu and passed down through Yang Shou Zhong. I’m even getting to spend the day with a disciple from the Yangs in a couple weeks. W00t. So maybe there will be the occasional chop socky post again.

  1. Congrats, it’s always good to get back moving that body.
Xingyi is really nice, even I only know the 5 phases mother form.
As to the Hongkong Yang branch, lately there seems to be a real craze, crane, snake, tiger etc. forms of Yang style comming out of there.
Wouldn’t give to much of it, at least my teachers don’t value the Yangs in that generation that much.

  2. Yah, this isn’t a crazy interpretive “add things to it because we can” thing but rather something traceable through the branch started by Yang Cheng Fu. As in before Cheng Man Ching made his changes. I’ll post a video of Yang Shou Zhong here in a sec so look for it.
