Random Seven

Two different readers have tagged me for this, so away we go:

Seven random facts about me:

1. I was (lightly) recruited for the CIA when I was a freshman at FSU. It’s all a little foggy now, but I believe they were looking for English majors to apply for analyst positions once they graduated, and maybe they were looking to farm them through the undergrad process. I don’t remember the circumstances under which they found me, I just remember someone coming into my Shakespeare class and handing me a letter or flyer or something. I applied at a later date-minus degree-but never got a response. No doubt they got a look at my medical record.

2. Notable ancestors (reportedly) include Adm. David Farragut and Leif Ericsson.

3. I took via prescription the following psychiatric drugs between the ages of 15 and 29: Lexapro, Wellbutrin, Celexa, Zoloft, Prozac, Cymbalta, Paxil, Strattera,Luvox, Serzone, Lamictal, Neurontin, Depakote, Lithium, Risperdal, Zyprexa, Geodon, Ritalin, Concerta, Klonopin, Sinequan, Lortab, and generics of nearly all of these in various combinations.

4. I have studied (to one extent or another, including what I’d call self-directed research) in the following martial arts styles: Tae Kwon Do (both sport and traditional), Goju-ryu, U.S. Tang Soo Do, Hapkido, Jow Ga kung fu, Pai Lum kung fu/Taijiquan, Wushu, “government” Yang Taijiquan, Yang Jwing-ming’s Yang Taijiquan, Kendo, Iaido, Jeet Kune Do (yah, I know, me and everybody else, right?), Gracie Jiu-jitsu (see JKD comment), Yang Family Taijiquan, and Hebei Xingyiquan. I do not possess a rank any higher than a mid level in any system that actually gives rank, so maybe that should tell you something about the depth of my education. :)
5. I once had a card carrying AVP player as a personal volleyball coach. Chris Hanneman, along with Daniel Cardenas, who didn’t really speak English, beat Karch Kiraly and Kent Steffes-best team in the world at the time-in the 1993 Chicago open, booting them out of the tournament. Let’s just say I learned a lot from him.

6. My IQ is (supposedly) 180. I was a National Merit Scholar Commended Student due to my PSAT score. I once earned 36 college credit hours in about 6 hours via the CLEP. The highest my income has been in the 14 years I’ve been in the work force is $25,000. Viva standardized tests!

7. I currently own four cats. The most I’ve ever owned at once? 15.

  1. I read a study that said income rises with IQ until you reach slightly-above-average, and then it starts to fall. Maybe the smartest are the most content without making money?

  2. Now that sounds like a pleasant rationalization that I can live with!
